Amazing the force of Nature, isn't it?!! I know exactly what you mean by"... kicked and bruised Earth bullied into submission" Several years ago we had lightening strike two tall twin pine trees in our yard. Blew the bark off each in long scars, right through to the roots and about five or six feet across the ground too. Sadly that was the end of our trees, as lightening will "fry" the cambium layer, killing the tree from the inside out, and both had to be taken down. Great Haiku, captures the 'damage' well.
