Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash. Leonard Cohen

Distance = Pace X Time

source

Perched on the ledge of adolescence, we
were too timid to jump
but too bold to uproot and climb
down
So we skimmed the surface
Tasted only a slice when we wanted
the whole pie
Curious fury stilled
only to shake loose each time
Your eyes shone blue topaz
Your tender growl
mingled with shrill, girl giggles
Green passion urged me onward
Propelled me
toward your freckled mouth
But you were wending your way toward
someone else
something more typical than I
could offer
So I stood in your dust
Bit my maiden aunt lips and
Tasted  grit in my teeth.

ouch, felt...there was a nice heat building til the bucket of ice water hit...from the growl to the grit...

Beginning so beguiling, and then the grit at end. Dang. I like that the speaker is NOT typical... but hopefully not forever a maiden aunt. Thanks for contributing this, Lola Mouse. ~ M

I think she should be happy that she was timid when others were bold.
Hard at the time though

you have captured all the nuances of this tender rite of passage with the lightest touch of words and depth of images.

Some choice lines that hurdled me back. One in particular:

"Curious fury stilled"

Enjoyed.
