Storm

People of Chilmark, Thomas Hart Benton, 1920
Quickly carry the boat back to shore
Black is the sky, the waves are high
The Hyades cry in grief
The Pleiades are dark
We plead with the gods
Heavens rain down
Atlas weak
Save our
Souls

I like how this is not supposed to rhyme, but you snuck a rhyme into the second line.

Dark days and we reach to our myths for experience, wisdom, courage, and the ability not to repeat mistakes. With these short lines you capture the raison d'etre of philosophy and the arts. Well done. Thank you for writing and linking today. Gay

Very cool--quite a sense of turmoil and confusion, senselessness, wildness all kinds of stuff, kind of like life these days. Liked it much.

The picture certainly has the air of a Greek tragedy, even if we take the swim-suits into account.

You convey the sense of panic, well.

Homer would have loved that. Isn't there a name for a diminishing line poem? I can't think of it. Like "The Dormouse's Tale" from Alice In Wonderland.

A second response... I responded to your question on mine referring to ASL and sign language: looking up some information on Chilmark people I found an astounding ratio of deaf to hearing of 1 in 25 for over 200 years in that area. See mine for a more in depth explanation.
