Fall To Black

"arting" by lolamouse
The summer heat has overstayed its welcome
and autumn chill is finally in the air
The gold and yellow fall down to the earth
and when I think of you, I fall to black.

October's fading light brings melancholy
Spirits resurrected from their graves
Your ghost haunts dusty corners of my memory
I see you in my dreams and fall to black.

You came to me so suddenly
You left that way as well
I try to be okay with it, but
Sometimes it's just hell.

The morning sun awakens tired limbs
but soon there will be frost upon the grass
Without a winter, there can be no spring
I close my eyes and let it fall to black.

October Blue

Thinking of the friends I've lost
Warm mist hanging in the air
and wondering about the cost

Autumn wind
blows right through me
Was there one who
really knew me?

What happened?
What did I do?
October blue

Looking up at strange clouds floating
Wondering if it will rain
Feeling sorry for myself
when I think of us again

Have to laugh despite it all
You understood absurdity
Mirrors for each other, you
would not believe what you could see

Hard to find
someone like you
October blue

Red and yellow
leaves beneath my dirty shoes
Distant memories
mixing with the autumn hues

Sometimes I wish
that I fit in
when I think of
you my friend

Even now
I still miss you
October blue.

Autumn, Battle Creek Cypress Swamp

Carpet of green
cypress needles under my feet
soft and sweet
Paw paw leaves
like fairy fans
their strange fruit overhead
or squished underfoot
overripe and candy sticky
Fallen logs
studded with faux seashells
the air heady with their musk
The creek gambols
over cypress knees
tickling
mud turtles
singing duets
with green frogs
Here
the world is
brown and green
lush and clean
I inhale
its essence.
