Summer Song

source
Through lazy afternoons the summers pass
I walk barefooted through the new mowed grass

Grasshoppers gambol underneath my feet
As August moves to its unhurried beat

A hummingbird sips nectar from a flower
Hypnotized, I lose track of the hour

The scent of honeysuckle fills the air
Its sweetness nips my tongue and lingers there

The silken wings of butterflies alight
On fragrant flowers colorful and bright

Once the pace slows down I hear the hush
The summer's torpid tempo can't be rushed

Again I learn that here is the sublime
In this moment, living all the time.

Oh yes! Summer is nearly here! The poem read just like summer feels. Nice...

This really nails the form and also that 'rustic' natural focus of the original creator of it--plus I just like the images a lot, the nipping of the tongue, and the final lines--really nice, lm.

Didn't you do well!
So lovely and melodic and full of sounds and smells and tempi. Love it, and naturalistic too. couldn't be more so.

Oh I love this! What beautiful images. You gave me big smiles with this sweet poem. :)

I just wrote a honeysuckle poem too, so seeing your topic got me all excited.

One cannot rush the here and now. My time has already passed to fast so I wish for it to slow, maybe to a stop. I know it won't slow to the pace I wish it to or halt, so I breath in deeply so i can absorb as much as I can of the now.

I can definitely feel a connection to your theme here, of living in the moment, of breathing all of the world that is around us, of drinking in the beauty. Wonderfully embroidered within the structure of a Clarian sonnet.

So not fair to be writing such beautiful poems about summer while I am sitting here freezing. :)

Yeah, honeysuckle. It is so long since I suckled honeysuckle!

Yup. That sounds just like it should be a Seals & Crofts song.
Just need a hook for a chorus!

I think this is beautifully Carian in theme as well as form.
