Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash. Leonard Cohen

Dear Fox News, I Wish...

I’m writing to you
To make perfectly clear
Although I am Jewish
You don’t need to fear
That I want to take Christ
Out of your Christmas
And starting a “war”
Is not on my wish list
There’s more than one festival
Round ‘bout December
It’s nice to acknowledge them all
And remember…
When I say “Happy Holidays,”
 I mean no offense
If you take it that way
You’re just being dense!

What I want to know is, who took the Arrrr out of Arbor Day? It had to be pirates! Filthy, tree-hating pirates!

And what about this Christmas thing? People just want "stuff"! Gifts!

Cool! This is an issue yearly about what to call the Christmas dinner at Quaker meeting. "Christmas" leaves out pagan Quakers but "12th Month" leaves out Christian Quakers . . . The politically correct forget to include the formerly oppressive majority! But your poem is a wonderful and funny acknowledgement that the hand touching yours could be inclusive and even curious about which festival you celebrate.

Hmmm... It has all become very silly, but that doesn't prevent the retailers from laughing all the way to the bank.

Are they running with this "War on Christmas" crap again? Sheesh.

I love how Fundamentalist Conservatives seem to think that their freedom of speech involves forcing everyone else to do things their way. It's like, YOU can say "Merry Christmas" all you want; the Walmart greeter not saying TO YOU is not a violation of your freedom. It's like, you have the freedom to pray all you want, but that freedom doesn't mean that everyone else in a public place has to be forced to pray with you.

Love it. :) As a Christian myself, I am bit bewildered by other Christians insisting upon "Merry Christmas" and "keeping Christ in Christmas". That is all good and fine for a church and Christian individuals, but why the need to impose it on everyone, even if they aren't Christian. I won't be offended if you wish me Happy Holidays! I'm all for diversity and freedom of religon.

Wonderful. I'm not Christian, but I have no problems with someone wishing me Merry Christmas. I figure any nice gesture should be accepted without getting my panties in a knot over the words they chose to be nice.
