Guardians of Morality

Until I feared I would lose it, I never loved to read.  One does not love breathing.

Harper Lee (b. 1926), U.S. author. Scout, in To Kill a Mockingbird, pt. 1, ch. 2 (1960).

It’s for your own protection
We’re doing this for you
These books are filled with vulgar filth
We’ll keep them from your view!

They’re violent and subversive
With pornographic sex
They glorify both drink and drugs
This issue’s not complex

We’re not being prejudicial
Or bigoted, God knows!
Those folks can live their twisted lives
But need we be exposed?

Let’s read about good values!
And let’s all say a prayer
That more folks read their Bible-
No sex or violence there!

(rolls and rolls and rolls his eyes) Oh yeah... I've had that discussion before. It never turns out well.
