Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash. Leonard Cohen

Moons Under My Feet

Castle in the Air (1928) by M.C. Escher (source)

In the air, I was a queen
My castle was impenetrable
My fortunes infinite as the stars.
If only I had known
that when your world is built upon a whisper,
You must not scream.
I fell through
a hole in my delusions.
You, my king, did not catch me.
I prepared to die in the water,
an extinguished meteor.
The swans caught me
like a breath.
A seed, they planted me
in the mud of my new home.
Here I grew real
as the thirteen moons under my feet.
