Penny Royalty

She drowns under
the weight of mistakes,
consequences

Whispers a prayer to Selene,
Mover of tides
Keeper of rhythms

Prostrates herself
before her Queen
She knew the pain of lovers

She prays
to awaken
from nightmarish dreams

Please release
the threads
thin, but binding

Endymion sleeps
She sinks,

Licking the Wounds

You don't want to know me
You want photo ops
Sound bites for the bridge club
Bragging rights
for a well-bred pup
Throw the bitch a bone
Do some tricks for the nice ladies
then kick the mutt with your Ferragamos
for getting your rug dirty
Is it any wonder
I shrink away
when you reach your hand out?
or that I shed my collar
along with my milk teeth
so long ago?

Sweet Imagism

Nana's dresser
cracked white paint with
gilding rubbed thin
glass bottles of Opi stand
like multicolored soldiers
Inside
the smell of old lady lavender
utilitarian beige bra
and underneath, her stash
hundreds of little pink packets
Sweet n Low
