Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash. Leonard Cohen

Sometimes Words Are Just Words
I get it, Buk
Life and art, art and life
but sometimes
An old man ogling a young girl in a mini skirt
is just an old man ogling a young girl in a mini
skirt
And frankly, Hank
Your cock is not that interesting
to be featured in so many poems
So while you may think yourself beyond hip
when you sing the praises of the
Middle Class White Male
If you ever called me a whore
I’d slap the cool right off your face
and make you feel the sting
of what’s really real
of what’s really real
Rest in peace, man.

Inspired by the style and content of Charles Bukowski's poetry, which I attempted to appreciate again for this challenge and still don't find very likable. Here is a link to read some yourself.

Little Star
![]() |
picture of my daughter when she was much younger (she's 16 now) |
Shine on little star
Claim your place in the sky; your light
shall not be obscured
You are a daughter
of the Sun and Moon, no lesser than
the many sons
Your beauty
illuminates the night
Your radiance
guides the way
Your fire
will protect you and those you love
Do not be daunted by the vastness
of the Heavens
They were made for you
to have a place to dance

You Love the Rain
![]() |
source |
Anyone can love a sunny day
but you
love the rain
While I grumble
at the grey
the morning mist
makes you smile
You come alive
a neglected houseplant
that's finally been watered
This morning
you ran outside to play
a puppy in the puddles
When you came back inside
you smelled of fresh mowed grass
and had cherry blossom petals
clinging to your dark hair
like tiny wedding veils
I lifted each one
and kissed beneath it
I love you because
you love rain clouds
I looked up
and saw them
heavy
and pregnant with portent
You looked up
and said
That one looks like
a lazy manatee
floating across the sky.

This Child
Photograph: Getty Images
This child you love so much destroyed your life
One time you were a strong colt running free
but now you're broken and forever saddled
This child you hate so much has saved your life
More than enough of all you never needed
and grabbing for as much as you could get
A frenzied trip to everywhere and nowhere
Girl, will there be a next stop after here?
This child, this child, this child- it's all this child
Your life, your life, your life-where did it go?
The emptiness inside you isn't screaming
The hopelessness begins to settle in
This child you love so much destroyed your life
This child you hate so much has saved your life
