Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash. Leonard Cohen

Just Drive

How can you be so close
yet seem so far away?
When did you stop listening to
the things I try to say?
You say that you still love me and
I want to think it's true
But do you know me any more
and do I know you?

The longer silence lingers
harder to utter the words
But why say anything
when you're not heard?
And so another night
with words unspoken, thoughts unsaid
Starting to get numb now
to the hurt

How is it two people
who'd complete each other's thoughts
Now can't look each other in the eyes?
And why is it that even though
you say that I was right
I end up being the one who
always cries?

Where did we veer off the road?
Why didn't we see the curve?
Stupid thinking that we had arrived
Now we're stumbing
in the dark
Trying to find our way
Are we just too broken now
to drive?

Heart wrenching! A question for all ages, I fear.

I'm sure there are many who could relate to the emotion of this poem. Relationships are hell!

Wow. Some emotion in that! Nice writing.

I can feel your frustrations and sadness in this. The silence of words though speaks louder. Nice one ~

A quarter century with my partner has sometimes brought about the nemesis of Love's face, complacency. My battle with this condition has been to ask her to read my words, the denizen of where my heart, mind, soul reside.

Relationships are like that but I feel ya.

ah a relatable piece to many - the frustration is palpable - and the sadness - it's no easy road - well expressed here - nice job!

There aren't any answers to the questions that you've posed here. Food for thought. Beautifully written, almost like song lyrics.

I asked this question recently...words can cover so much silence or silence can cover so many words! Both hurt equally. I can't tell you why except maybe one of us has uttered those fateful three words...what about me?

This is beautifully written, and a situation everyone surely can relate to. Thanks for sharing.

Sad, but true! One minute on the same path, another we are on a free lane wondering how?!

Well Done~

Isn't that the truth...
The craziness and magic of the beginning always fades. If there is nothing beyond that infatuation, it grows stale and dies. Once it's dead, it's dead forever. Somebody once said, "there isn't anything deader than dead love..."
