In the neighborhood where I grew up
we all had chain link fences around our yards
to separate them from our neighbors' yards
But whiffle balls and frisbees
don't respect boundaries
and sometimes the fences had to be climbed
to fetch a stray
and return it to the game
Sitting on top of those fences
with my legs swinging in the air
I could see both sides clearly
They say the grass is always greener
on the other side of the fence but
it always looked the same to me.

I remember all of that so clearly. I love how the poem very matter of factly dismisses the old saying.
I love this photo! So glad you chose it, and such a poem to bring back the days of youth spent in suburbs.

Looks can be deceiving...
I think it was Erma Bombeck who said, "The grass is always greener over the septic tank."
That photo is enough to drive my eyes to madness.
Like the poem, though. Makes me think of cool summer evenings...the smell of cut grass...the streetlights have just come on...and an impromptu game of backyard baseball has just been thrown together.
I'm all for a little fence-hopping--we build way too many of them--unless of course, there's an angry pit bull on the other side. That pic is really intriguing--looks almost like fur--but the grass certainly isn't caring much about the whole fence concept. Enjoyed it, lm.

Ah, a happy child! I love how they view the world. I overheard my daughter's little friends say that her grass was prettier because it had a lot more pretty yellow flowers in it. She would have been horrified if I had told her I paid to have them removed. :)
Delightful! I can picture a child sitting up there, thinking it looks the same. Good stuff!
