Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash. Leonard Cohen

London Daydream

Touchdown at Heathrow
London love affair is born
Oxford aspirations
West End wishes
Topped with chocolate sponge pudding
 Her rural southern roots
Confine her
Like a prisoner in a tower
She dreams of escaping Underground
To emerge speaking the Queen's English
"Stop"?
Oh no. She's just beginning.

Thanks for taking part in One Shoot today! Never been to London. Perhaps this summer when I'll go visit Pete Marshall of OSP. Always wanted to go. As with your poem, sounds like a place of dreams with much to see. Excellent, vivid transformation of a young lady breaking out of bucolic confinement to emerge as citified royalty.

Nice work! A perfect spot to pick for a suffocated protagonist.

I flew through there once but have not been to the city. I am craving a european excursion though... my brother lives abroad, so there is always a good excuse for a trip. :) Beautiful poem.

MY favorite part:

Her rural southern roots
Confine her
Like a prisoner in a tower

I got lost in Heathrow. Ended up having a warm beer and a wet sandwich with an Australian guy.

Ah, the poem goes so well with the picture - I've been overseas, but not to England, and I can relate to the southern roots seeming like chains...this was a fun romp. :) If you haven't been there, I hope you get to go! (And definitely escape to see the sights!)
