The Lighthouse

The lighthouse keeper
climbs the stairs for the last time
Each step creaks-
bone and stair-
to the top and down again
The light
blinks its shine in the night sky
over a black and silent sea
"I am here"
"I am here"
it calls out to the emptiness
like the last firefly of summer.

I love the "bone and stair." Beautiful stuff.

Yes, "bone and stair" are wonderful as is the reference to a "firefly". Many a keeper did love his lighthouse, took their jobs very seriously. This has a very steadfast and true voice.

This is perfect - a tale told in a mere 55 words.

And we all live in a lighthouse, hoping to guide someone in, perhaps--there's a timeless feeling to this, LM--moody and excellent.
