Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash. Leonard Cohen

Yesterday's Dreams

Yesterday's Dreams by Jack Vettriano
Fine cracks form
in the porcelain of your face
as you suck on another cigarette
Already the ashtray is full of pink stained blooms
ground in the dirt and squashed underfoot
You have only a few more good years left
to find someone to love you
So it's the black dress and heels again
and out the door for drinks
Turning your back on the one
who has loved you all along
and cries himself to sleep.

Ah the unrequited love of the man in her life. She may be aiming too high?

Sometimes what we're looking for is already there.

Wow! Wonderful, Lolamouse. Your romantic fiber and sensitivity really comes out in this one

Gracias for this one, mi amiga!

Ouch. It's always the way, innit? I read this, and felt sympathy for them both.

OMG (and I rarely type that), this is a real swift kick to the heart. Poignant but unflinchingly unsentimental. Just great.

A complete, well thought-out, effective story...

Beautiful and very sad. Sad for the lady and sad for the guy she has no thoughts about.

Poignant and so, so, true for many a foolish woman....! Excellent, Lola!

Ooh. Interesting interpretation. She doesn't look like she's leaving anyone behind to me, but maybe that is because I'm single. :)

Nice (if sad) twist.
