Never the Sun (inspired by Patti Smith's Because the Night)
It starts as a whisper
your fingers teasing the keys
then becomes more insistent
as the strokes plead for more
The day is deaf
to the night's music.
Angels disguised as fireflies
hold lanterns to our window as
chordal intensity
and a persistent bass thrum
set the rhythm
The night has begun
and because the night
speaks
in its own tongue
we answer back with ours
with notes only
the moon can hear
never the sun.

Love this! So wonderfully done. Will be back!
Oh hell yeah. I knew YOU would write with the spirit of Patti for this. Somehow the way you placed the title of the song, just so, within your poem really worked for me. The whole thing did.
"Because The Night" is one of my all-time favorite songs, both for the song itself and for the time in my life that hearing it evokes.
Oh this is beautiful - and mystical - I especially love the closing lines.........great write!
Oh, wonderful wonderful words, Lolamouse. The day is indeed deaf to the night's music.

Love this...You are so creative. I agree the day is deaf to the night's music. I struggled with this prompt, but I gave it a shot.
This definitly one of my favorites by you :)
Enjoyed listening to Patti Smith's, Because the Night
Gracias, mi amiga
Beautiful words. Made me smile while reading them!
yeah, only the moon, never the sun. i just love this.
Sweet! That was like an all-in-one visual sensual emotional post. All I needed was a tender steak and a slow back rub to go with it and I would have melted like butter.
I like the nacht musiek you have conjured with these words.
