Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash. Leonard Cohen

A Half-Baked Nursery Rhyme

Cake under your pillow, you'll dream of your groom
A bite of some cake, you're too big for the room

Let them eat cake when they haven't the bread
Say the wrong thing and it's off with your head

A slice with the baby, you bring the next cake
Poor Gretel was put in an oven to bake

You can't have your cake and then eat it too
Be a sweet little girl, and they will eat you!

I love the way you have woven many known images into a new configuration, and the video is a great choice for this prompt.

I love it. Magic Realism is perfect for Lolamouse!

First of all, I LOVE that song by Tom Petty! I came within an eyelash of using this very same video with one of my poems not long ago.

That scene where she is being divvied up on plates is creepy, but so is being divvied up by those hungry for their portion of someone.

I admit, the last line sent me on an unintended direction. For a gal like me, it sounds like it could be a good thing! :-P

Oh, poor Alice, so much malice. Lolamouse has done it again, done it so very well.

Yeesh on the vid--I thought the one for Last Dance With Mary Jane was whack. Great take on the prompt, LM--there are all kinds of perils to being that sweet.

Guess sweet isn't always a good thing? Alice and Gretel in one, nice play. I loved it!
