The pictures on the front page of the paper on my table
Every morning look so haunting
Earthquakes, tsunamis, radiation in Japan
These disasters are just too daunting
It's a wee bit much to handle
Before I've had my morning coffee
I need to warm up my brain
With some news that's not as lofty
So I turn my attention to that easy little section
Called "Style" in the middle
I read my horoscope, snicker, turn a page
And try to solve the daily riddle
I laugh at the comics, follow gossip, entertainment
And get some good advice
I even get a hint from Heloise
On how to cook my rice
So please forgive me if you see me
at the market
And it's quarter after two
And you ask me what I think about
the state of world
And I don't have a clue
It's not that I don't care about
what's happening out there
It's just that I can't deal
With too much information in the morning so
I read the headlines
After my evening meal!

Me as well - wise words!
Me too. Sometimes (as Wordsworth once said) the world is too much with us.)
Well said.
Lolamouse,
I love your thoughts about how to handle and digest the news of each day.
Of course by lunchtime, the headlines will have been replaced by something much more important!!
Best wishes, Eileen

Oh, you said it, girl. I am exactly the same. Give me my funnies and advice columns!
rich words.
well penned.
Excellent Lola...I am there with you. My heart, my soul, my mind go out to Japan. It is hard to get my mind around it all. I need respite between the reality, and realize I am not living it there. I am merely an observer. I can only begin to imagine. Then there is Haiti, still far from recovered. Fortunately Japan has better economic resources. But, I digress. A heartfelt poem, on a personal level.
Sounds like a good idea - you'll have a happier day that way! But perhaps more nightmares? I enjoyed your writing!
Well done. I can certainly relate, especially since the news seems to get more depressing all the time.
:) Oh my, same here... My head will feel really heavy if I hit the details of news early morning... the best time for me is early or late noon... evening is not very good for me cos I will have trouble sleeping... :)
Nice sharing you have there.. :)
I read the paper with my breakfast - the next day!
This is so clever! And, it's true, too.
lola i am totally with you!
I love your style; both your poem and your life. What a great idea to just read the parts where you might ease yourself into that good day. I may do the same instead of overlooking that ominous news altogether!
