She’s such a freak
Her head is a mess
But she’s lookin’ fine
In that tight, black dress
The men, they don’t care
That her eyes are dead
‘Cause she comes alive
When she’s in their beds
The girl, she gets by
She’s sad; she don’t know why
Maybe tomorrow, she’ll try a little harder
But for now she’ll let it lie
The guys, they all think
They’re good for her
‘Cause she gives them a smile
A kiss and a purr
But just underneath
Her painted on pink
Are fangs that will bite
And sharp claws that sink
Into their flesh
To bleed til it’s clean
But she really don’t mean
To be so mean
The girl, she gets by
She’s scared; she don’t know why
Maybe tomorrow, she’ll try a little harder
But tonight, she’ll just stay high.

ugh....i feel so sad for her...something underneath there....a void she is trying to fill...i have been there and i chased that high to keep it at bay....
Addiction is a pilferer of true life and happiness...sad. Well captured.
So sad that she can't fill herself up with something more.....the high will ultimately not be enough. Perfectly drawn!
I've seen and have met women like this. But, unfortunately, there are the men that take advantage of this and perpetuate this through their selfish needs. Their eyes are also deep and dark with emptiness
Sad but true Lola, mi amiga
Getting by -- it's never enough, so she "just" gets high. Makes me sigh a very sad sigh here, Miss Mouse. You've done a good job of showing how she feels.

Your repetitions and your illustration underscore the daily and nightly habit of this life in which tomorrow never comes. Your meter does not allow me to stay depressed by it, however, and this makes me wonder if she is accountable or if she is one of society's throw away empties?
Oh, I feel sad for her too. Addiction is a nightmare for the addict and everyone connected to them
Powerful, sad, truth here.
I love Rosie Hardy's images, as you know :)
You present a troubled character here, who seems to be teetering on the brink of insanity uncertain how to find meaning in life.
feels like a song...mournful, truth of too many.
I hope that you will consider sharing an offering for this year's 4th annual gratitude word quilt. You can find information about the project and how to participate at the top of my blog. If you’ve already sent something thank you and please forgive my poor memory. The quilt is growing quite expansive and with only first names, I can’t always remember who already shared. Feel free to write in your native language google translate is available on my blog so every one can read and understand one another. Every Blessing~ Laura
You drew her very well ~ Addiction is a never ending cycle of despair and frustration ~
Good one ~
oh great sigh.
You have depicted this sad girl so accurately - she is sad, she dont know why, she's scared, she dont know why. And her dead eyes. I hope she makes it through to happier days and the real love that she so badly needs. Great write, kiddo!
Sad, sad tale....but you wrote it so well. I hope she will find her way before it is too late.
You wrote perfectly for this image, but your words stand alone as well, a very sad portrait of too many beautiful women, trapped in addiction and depression.
Second song analogy I have made today, but this remionds me of The A Team by Ed Sheeran. Great picture of the things can happen to a woman and how hard it can be to get your footing again. Loved the hard hitting imagery. Great work.
I really like this. The title/repeated line is perfect. And, got to love Rosie Hardy.
This was a sad one...portraying a picture from both sides...or all sides of "using".
The photo so well matches the mood of this poem. very sad, but beautifully written.
Oh, this is painful. Addiction is a horrid disease...you captured it well.
Yeah. I've known girls like that. And once I got a good look I just ran for my life. Brr!
Sometimes you give me the shivers.
This is sad and so true for many that are haunted and used by others~
Wow, wow....what a poem! You drew me in with your guided, enchanted imagery! well done
This is a song, girl. Love it!
i swear i'm not copying Mama Zen ~ this really SHOULD be a song! LOVE it!
