Summer Nights

Summer Night, Albert Bloch (1913)

The summer nights play on and on
You move like a sax solo
languid in the heat
dreamy, bluesy
Like a sleepy cat you stretch
The air wicks off notes of jasmine
honeysuckle
into the thickness
We wait
for the ending measures of summer
with sweat in our eyes
and syncopated heartbeats
while the summer nights play on
and on.

Yes, it certainly feels like this, doesn't it. The days still quite hot, but at least some reprieve in the evenings!
Enjoyed reading your Magpie, well penned!

I love the orchestration of sound, smell, etc--I love the entire orchestra and the dancers too, particularly this seductive and true end: "We wait for the ending measures of summer with sweat in our eyes and syncopated heartbeats while the summer nights play on and on." mmm

This captures a hot, steamy summer night and the languor that can arise. Lovely.
