Love Poem For a Place and a Girl

She understands this place;
she understands me.
We walk the wooden boards in silence
and let Nature speak.
The creek eases past Cypress knees,
anchoring trees who have stood
peaceful witness
through lifetimes come and gone.
"Look," she says. "The paw paws are nearly ripe."
I inhale their tropical musk
and reach for her hand.

Love the sound of this:

The creek eases past Cypress knees,
anchoring trees

It's the best thing in the world to have someone who really does understand us too, isn't it. I love the imagery of the trees in this but more than that love its gentleness.

And you will always have this board walk, knees and scent and all.

This is beautiful. I absolutely love the easy, understated way you've written this. It only makes the sweet, familiar, lovely gesture at the end all the more affecting. *sighhhhhh*

Such serenity in this...the peace of being with the one you love...words spoken through the touch of hands.

That sense of unity that comes when someone understands, shares, and indeed, amplifies, one's own experience and emotion--perfect capture, LM.

Oh yes .. when I think of paw paws I'm reminded of warm moist weather, ... which leads me to lush and ultimately to passion! Love this!

Understanding is what is so special about love. Not needing to explain everything...

This is absolutely beautiful and perfectly captures the tender side of love. So appropriate to incorporate nature, a slow and silent walk. Just lovely.

Your opening lines say so much about a relationship that will last---understanding the person, but also understanding the things/places she loves.
