Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash. Leonard Cohen

Empty Spoon

Working Still by Borg de Nobel
  I hear your cries
like Spanish radio
in the apartment next door

I have no milk
I haven't eaten in three days

Ashes to ashtray
dust to rock
dreams to smoke

I cook my meals on a dirty spoon
I feed death to my bones

I saw your mouth move
like a hatchling bird's

My empty spoon
can't fill your hunger

I am nothing
I can give nothing

For me, that has a combination of anger and despair to it.

Strong, powerful poetry.

This brings flashes of memory to me of a life past beyond and in it a relevance and urgency that permeates the pores

You are so dark and delicious these past days! Loving both the words and imagery! :)

Thought provoking and a little sad
Thank you for your beautiful words

This is so desolate and hard to read. The worst part is knowing that this is happening all over the place, right now. God damn the pusher man.

The empty spoon is a good metaphor for the misery and despair of your words ~

Happy Sunday to you ~

This is so good! I love these:

"I hear your cries
like Spanish radio"

"Ashes to ashtray
dust to rock
dreams to smoke"

"I feed death to my bones" (my very favorite line)

Love the way you play off the double meaning of the spoon.

I could see you in a black turtleneck and beret, reciting that in a beatnik coffee house.

Go, Man. That's hip.
