Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash. Leonard Cohen

No Limits

“Every 47 minutes, a woman tests positive for HIV in the United States."

How limited is your compassion?
How can you judge another's worth
as if they were a piece of fashion
How limited is your compassion?
Your love and care you need not ration
The more you give, the less the dearth
How limited is your compassion?
How can you judge another's worth?

yep...we have no right to judge...but should spend our energy in helping and being compassionate..a fine piece..

Some people seem to do it effortlessly, however--I always wonder how, too--I guess it's that sociopathic quality of no empathy. Thanks for speaking out, LM.

I feel your essence and spirit in this.
So full of insight ..

Nicely incorporated into your triolet. It's an ongoing question and answer internally. Some people seem to be able to dig deeper and help more than others.

A timely and meaningful post ~

I like how you did this in trilot too ~

As I've said before, the refrain structure of the triolet lends itself well to aphorisms or, as here, cultural admonitions. Great use of the verse form!

What a wonderful way to use your poetic gift--a message more need to hear.

Fantastically important topic, thanks for addressing it. HORRIFYING statistics. The repetition is very effective.

On a side note: Who wrote that bit on the sidebar about teaching our daughters? I like that.

not everyone with limited compassion is necessarily judgmental or visa versa.

Loved the poem. Hated the reason for it. It's something we should be aware of each and every day, not just once a year, eh?

Excellent question for sure. Better to spend our lives with compassion than judgement. There is almost always something we could do to help.
