Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash. Leonard Cohen

Fleeting and Precious

source
Time stops
for a moment, frozen
The bay
hides her secrets under
a cold, varnished lid
Branches of tall oaks
sheathed in shimmer
Pine needles
ensconced in ice
Winter's toothpicks
Dogwood
dripping diamonds
Ephemeral jewels
fleeting and
precious.

Note: I was inspired by the caption to a FB post from Dusty and Vicki Rhoades which read, "Dogwood dripping diamonds"

The way water clings and drop from branches during the melting of snow is poetry just in itself.

Lola, I like all of the Bay's not-fun in the cold. Blame it on Mother Nature (and Climate Change).
Precious jewels are those "Pine needles ensconced in ice." Short lived though.

This is so beautiful. Though I'm ready for this winter to be over, argh... still, the beauty is all around us. I love your description of the way as a jar with a lid... I'm picturing one of those old mason jars with a thick glass lid. Really lovely, thank you. :)
