Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash. Leonard Cohen

White Lie

I told my love a small white lie
It was of no import
To spare his feelings, that was why
I gave a false report.

But a lie is like the phosphorus
That coats a matchstick head
Though small and white, it's poisonous
and volatile once said.

Oh, how terribly true, Ms Mouse, and it will poison the teller of the lie forever, and the receiver only for a while.

Oh, yes, indeed! This has all the bite of one of Teasdale's uncompromising love poems.. and loads of LM wisdom too.

Hi. Sara Teasdale here. Quit ripping me off!

Okay, so I lied, I'm not Sara Teasdale, but you captured her style really well!

Excellent rhyme and meter make the message fly home like a very pointy arrow. True words, and unlike a match, a lie is very hard to blow out.

So true...
Granny always told us that "a liar has to have a perfect memory, but a honest person never has to worry about it."
