The trains roll in
the trains roll out
and that's the way life works
Mama says
stay off the tracks
or you'll get yourself hurt
The whistle blows
the whistle fades
You left at half past two
I waited at the station but
you wouldn't take me with you
The tracks brought you
into this town
and you left on the train
You gave me fifty dollars
and I never learned your name.

That was pretty fast..what a life...Nice take on the prompt ~
Happy day to you ~
An unexpected and unexplained gift! I like it.
His name was "Tex". And his horse was "Trigger" of course.
I like all that you said and didn't say, rally leaves the reader wondering/hungering for more!
Now that was a quick visit by train..love this! I feel you captured the temporary in life. Seems sh e should have listened to her mama and stayed off the tracks. I have been amazed at what each writer saw in my photographs.
Good take on that prompt. I enjoyed it.

Hi I saw the link to here on Mynx's blog: http://littlemynx.wordpress.com
and thought I would pop over and have a look at who sent her those yummy marshmallow treats...... and what do I see an old photo of trains and what a great piece of writing about trains.......and my mind goes straight to my dad when we think trains in this family we think dad...........I am so glad I chose to come here
Short, sharp, and punchy. No waste, all good.
This photo reminds me of Fired Green Tomatoes and your poem had that same
vibe...nostalgic...personal...and down home. Loved it.
Those first two lines started a tune in my head and it stuck there..
The trains roll in
The trains roll out
The trains play pinochle
On your snout!
And it's still stuck there!
So nicely done! A very original idea, too - a fast trip that leaves me wanting more!
So original and well done! A fast trip, too --- it left me wanting more!
This is my kind of poem, simplistic in message and written with heart.
