East Village door step boys
beautiful birds
preening plumage
leathered wings
riveted on tight young bodies
Mirrored affectations
Eeking out crumbs
of attention
affection
Pissing desperation
on the sidewalk with the
cigarette butts
They will pluck out
eachother's eyes

It's a jungle out there! t least they realize what's really important!
So much in your poem. "Pissing desperation on the sidewalk." A slice of life.
if you got to try that hard to be pretty....or to get attention...there is a whole other part to the story...

great description of shallow people!!
messy little girl
Ha...I now some of these....alot of these...mostly these...lol. That last line hits the nail on the head..."girl, don't make me come over there"...great writing.
My favorite is "pissing out desperation on the sidewalk with the cigarette butts."
I like how this poem could be about teenage clique girls, but it seems much darker when its about boys.
That last line stings ~ I recall seeing them on the city streets ~
kinda sad
They almost make you want to point and laugh, don't they? I was never one of the pretty ones so I can do that.
Pissing desperation on the sidewalk ha ha ha...yeah- i know the kind of people you are talking about...it must take such energy to be THAT competative...this was a cool write- i liked the dry sarcasm that dripped all over this!
I am so happy I am not a young person in this day and age. It really has to be rough to fit in.
PS--just wondering if the Door Step Boys know the West End Girls?
Interesting picture. Are these guys a common fixture around those parts? This is the first I have heard of them. I really loved the following lines:
Pissing desperation
on the sidewalk with the
cigarette butts
Great way to depict young braggadocio mixed with such teenage angst.
Wow. That guy's outfit is really something. We all do a lot to feel fashionable, cool, popular, pretty... your poem says it all much better than I am right now. Great write. :)
Sad ...good capture.
Oh, Mouse...deliciously snarky-- especially the ending!
Wow! Like the man said, "It's not how you feel, it's how look that matters!"
Another great one...
