Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash. Leonard Cohen

Still Life

Put the flowers in the vase
     they will never wilt
Set the dishes on the table
     they will never get dirty
Place the cake in the middle
no one will ever eat it
A doll's house
     still life in miniature
     tiny perfection
no dog pee
 on the little carpets
no leaky shower
 in the little bath
 just antique footed 1:12 tub
no phone calls
no complaining
no demands
battering diminutive plastic ears
no noise
just
.
.
.
small quiet
still life
stilled life
still life?

but its all plastic...and will one day end up in a yard sale...for pocket change to purchase an ipod or something or other...even the still life eventually gets traded in...

Oh this was sweet. Made me think back to my Dad, who built a huge doll house for a friend of mine. Her daughter had more fun with that doll house. It is perfect in still life isn't it? Nice post.

Sweet. I love the question at the end. I had questions, too.
This also reminded me of dusty things from my childhood, even though I feel a different direction here. A prompt prompts a poem and a poem prompt a memory.
I also have a couple of books of miniatures from an exhibit my aunt took me to in Chicago when I was a young girl.
I also have a vague memory of a book about a doll named Marchpane. Do you know it?
Thanks for your poem, twinkly

Very nice Lola. It's too bad life comes along and spoils it all.

Your opening stanza's powerful, Lola, with its "they/it will never..." And the graphic images you chose for the contrasts that follow were terrific. Nice work!

Lolamouse, I love this, truly I do. I assume that this is your dollhouse. It is so true what you said...in a dollhouse world everything remains perfect. Definitely still life. Thank you for this and for participating in Poetry Jam.

A microcosm. A 3d model of what we wish life was really like.

Nicely done.

I adore dollhouses. The knitting is too cute by half.

What a very clever ending to a thought provoking poem. Love the accompanying pictures. Thank you for stopping over for a read. I love your visits and comments.

But dog pee just adds to the whole thing, you can't have life without it..haha....a great look at life as a doll house, perfect from looking at it, but is it really life if nothing changes one bit. Except of dust and if there is any metal maybe a bit of rust..haha

I don't think I would like it. The Still Life, I mean, not your poem. I liked the poem :)

No excitement. No challenges. No satisfaction from solving the problem of that leaky shower.

It would be a stress-free life, but static and boring and, to answer your final line, no. Not a life.
