Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash. Leonard Cohen

October

October is a cruel month
She doles out sunlight
like a petulant child forced to share her candy
Too hot to bundle up
Too cool to strip down
October relishes discomfort
She paints flowers and leaves
the color of dirt
just to remind you
that nothing lives forever.

Although I am at the other end of the seasonal scale, what you say of October holds true here - such a moody month caught between winter and summer.

She is exasperating and soothing at a moment's notice but I love her more than winter. Very nice write!

i like your angst here....the tough look at the dark side of the season!

I think we are revving on the same message, LM. This is simple, straightforward and true: even as its musical lilt seems lighthearted, the darkness, just like October, follows it.

I really like the approach you took to this. "October relishes discomfort." Outstanding.
