Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash. Leonard Cohen

Heaven's Ghetto

Keith Haring
Love can be dangerous
Cross the wrong street-
love can be deadly
Doesn't matter how we die
Disease, murder, brainwashing, hopelessness
We all end up in the same pile of bodies
Buried by gloved hands and masked faces
Heads shaking
Thinking "not me"
until it is

Hatred is a virus
as much as HIV
It spreads by fear
Grows stronger through ignorance
And the cure still seems miles
Away
Meanwhile
We die for love
Destined for Heaven's ghetto.

I've lost nine friends to this disease ... Years ago, and it is still so hard to think of them, how they died.

You saw far more than I.

Complex sad but beautiful creation.

Heaven's Ghetto or Hell's, is the question asked by the image, I reckon. :-)

Nothing's more deadly as the road where love and hate crosses.. much to think about in your words

Things do need straightening out. For our own and each other's sake. A puzzle.

Kill us all. The rocks and stones themselves will step up and sing.

Such an excellent metaphor, LM and so relevant to this week, month, time. The image of the undertaker: (Buried by gloved hands and masked faces) reminds me so starkly of the images seen from the Ebola ravaged countries of Central Africa. Terrifying.

We are all destined for the same fate. How easy it is to pretend that is not so. Your piece offered me a chance to reconsider that fact.

"We all end up in the same pile of bodies"

How long will it take before those who are filled with anger, with hatred, with prejudices realize that we are all the same inside. That we all want the same things; to live, to love,to grow old, to be happy. Very poignant piece.
