Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash. Leonard Cohen

Burn

The darkest places in hell are reserved for those who maintain their neutrality in times of moral crisis. Dante Alighieri
Black woman dared
climb above white men
Silenced hatred
Led away
in handcuffs
Black churches
burn to ashes
Barely make the news
Black men
black boys
shot by white police
again
We shake our heads
Baltimore burns
with anger
and hopelessness
We turn off the TV
Hell is on the way
It's coming for us.

The quote you chose is very powerful and surprisingly apt considering how long ago it was written. Your poem provides a bold view of current times. It is not an easy task for poets to convey commentary on events quite close to home without being seen as partisan or (worse) a spreader of propaganda as I was lately accused. However, it remains our task to speak as we see, in protest or in accordance with modern experience. Thank you.

So many wrongs to right. I hope we get to the end of justice and find peace and freedom at last. Words are powerful - speak on.

I have been wishing I could write about these things lately, LM--I do feel that shock of turning away from what we can't face running all through our society--you pin it to the wall here and make us look at its sorry corpse, or should I say, it's forever, seemingly, Undead one/ Great 55.

Oh, thank you for writing about this! Why is no one paying attention, and instead arguing about flags and forgetting the point? Well done!
