Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash. Leonard Cohen

Feline

You sneak up behind me
A cat after prey
Soft and silent
as night swallows day
You sedate with your purr
Rub your body on mine
Make me believe
You're a creature benign
Crystal green eyes
Reflect my desire
Give nothing away
of what will transpire
I reach out to touch
Pull back bloody and scratched
You walk away
Smug and detached.

SO like a cat! Haughty and above the fray. Smiles, Ms. Mouse!

Oooh! I love this, LM. Written from the perspective of a mouse, perhaps?

I love the phrase "night swallows day".

Wonderful, Ms Mouse. I also love "night swallows day" because it often feels just like that.
And your description of the cat's behaviour is perfect.
Funny thing, as I was sitting here at my computer, commenting on your poem, I saw a grey cat come up our front walk in a very stealthy manner. By the time I looked out the window in the door, it had disappeared, but whether to left or right, I don't know.
Very eerie.
Luv, K

Cats are a race unto themselves. You captured them well.

This was simply delicious. No simple, just yummy; a kind of delight that can be consumed all day. What story this poem tells...
