Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash. Leonard Cohen

Can We Keep Him?

He was purchased on a whim from the dime store
The kids kept whining and begging and well,
you know how it is
He was only $5.99, including the bowl
No one ever imagined he'd actually live so long
The kids fed him dried leaves
and bird feathers
and sometimes forgot to feed him at all
They even took him out to play with him
and dropped him on the floor!
There he was-all covered in dirt and moss
We were sure he was dead then, but no
They rinsed him off and he was fine
He's outgrown his bowl
and 3 tanks
He's costing us a fortune in food
and he doesn't do very much
I guess we're stuck with him-
he's so big that if I flushed him now
he'd probably clog up the plumbing.

I got a big kick out of this! I mean really. We see the Chris Angels et.al. and gawk in awe of stupid stunts. You've answered the question "what's he gonna do next?"

Nice one! And so true...
I think we've all been through this and they usually don't end well and/or we end up doing all the caretaking for the pet that the kids PROMISED they'd take care of. If you have the time and/or inclination, here's a link to a similar incident. Hope you are doing well!

Ahaha - this was very smart and funny; a completely different take than I was expecting or that anyone else had, I think ... very cool
