Anyone can love a sunny day
but you
love the rain
While I grumble
at the grey
the morning mist
makes you smile
You come alive
a neglected houseplant
that's finally been watered
This morning
you ran outside to play
a puppy in the puddles
When you came back inside
you smelled of fresh mowed grass
and had cherry blossom petals
clinging to your dark hair
like tiny wedding veils
I lifted each one
and kissed beneath it
I love you because
you love rain clouds
I looked up
and saw them
heavy
and pregnant with portent
You looked up
and said
That one looks like
a lazy manatee
floating across the sky.

smiles...love that middle stanza the most...and mainly because of the smells....and i love rain....
I SO LOVE THIS POEM. LOVE it! I so loved rain when I lived in the rainforest...loved the fog and all of the wet beach weather......I especially enjoyed the lines: "I love you because you love rain clouds.......like a lazy manatee floating across the sky." Simply superb!
I SO enjoy the easy conversational feeling of this, lolmouse! Such a genuine gift of a poem, thank you!
One can see relative wonderment in amything if one chooses to no matter if it poors when it rains.
The cool rain this time of year is wonderful, isn't it?
Rain is good. You can get icy-pole sticks and have gutter races.
Beautiful rain poem...I like the rain clouds..the contrast of sun and gloomy days....and the last image...a lazt manatee floating across the sky ~
A real silver lining come to life! Sweet!
What I like about this poem is the way the speaker recognizes the connectivity of a loved one to the rain, and how that allows the love to be shared. The last stanza is a wonderful conclusion to the theme.
I want to play in this world you have created! Beautiful...these words spoke to me:
"When you came back inside you smelled of fresh mowed grass and had cherry blossom petals clinging to your dark hair like tiny wedding veils I lifted each one and kissed beneath it"
How sweet. :-)
I myself do not want to be in the rain and am mystified -- and grateful -- for those that do...
