Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash. Leonard Cohen

Gone Fishing

There they are
the two men
at their private spot
(or what each thought was his private spot)
Each is too proud
and too stubborn to move
so they feign apathy
for the other's presence
But a casual observer
might see
a well rehearsed dance
mirrored males
See the straight backs?
the necks elongated just so?
the legs bent with feet nudged
toward water's edge?
Look at the pointy beaks and
intent expressions
This could be a rivalry or
just two pals
Gone fishing.

Haaaa!!! Great...you are exactly right...there could be an ass kicking on the horizon, or a shot of whiskey as the sun goes down and the tales get tall. Loved it.

It can be very hard to tell. If they start punching each other in the arm, I'm outta here!

lolamouse, I've had this photo on hand since 2008 and I've been trying to write a poem worthy of the shot. You have managed it without and trouble at all. I salute you! It's a great piece!

I like the back and forth that you have presented here, an understandable and regrettable stand off!!!

They look like the best of pals to me ... your words match the photo perfectly! Now, who is going to pan fry that fish?

that was awesome! you described it perfectly (in my mind). Two males showing off for each other and a female (just out of the picture).
Very good and fun!
